Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari met Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin. The meeting was held at the Trade Advisor’s office at the Secretariat today (Thursday, October 16, 2025) at noon. The meeting discussed in detail the expansion of bilateral trade.

Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari said that there are 11 jute mills in Nepal. Nepalese jute mills depend on raw jute imports from Bangladesh to meet their needs. The mills have faced some problems due to the recent ban on raw jute exports from Bangladesh. At this time, he made a formal request to relax the permission to export raw jute from Bangladesh.
Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that there is a demand for Bangladesh’s jute products and raw jute from different countries of the world. Instead of exporting raw jute, Bangladesh wants to export semi-finished (semi-processed) jute products.
He also said that Bangladesh is producing high-quality and environmentally friendly semi-finished jute products. If Nepal imports these products, the trade volume between the two countries will increase and both countries will benefit.
