A delegation of the National Citizen Party (NCP) has met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin to express concerns over the overall election environment and various irregularities ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.

The four-member delegation, led by NCP Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah, was also attended by Ayman Rahat, Secretary of the party’s Administration and Election Commission Coordination Subcommittee. Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar and Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were present on behalf of the Election Commission at the meeting.

The incident of attack on NCP candidate Ariful Islam Adib in Dhaka-18 parliamentary constituency was highlighted during the meeting. In addition, several allegations of violation of the National Parliament Election Code of Conduct by BNP were also presented to the Election Commission.

The delegation discussed various important issues including ensuring equal opportunities or ‘level playing field’ for all candidates, strengthening the security of candidates, taking effective measures to stop political and election rallies in government office premises, and removing illegal posters.

At the end of the meeting, the NCP delegation called for the Election Commission to take necessary steps, expecting an active and impartial role in organizing a fair, peaceful, free and fear-free election.
