Mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan Police Academies will be increased: Home Affairs Advisor

Mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan Police Academies will be increased, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) has said.

He said this when Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider paid a courtesy call on the Advisor at his office in the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (November 18, 2025) afternoon.

The meeting discussed various issues related to mutual interests of the two countries, including mutual cooperation and capacity building between the police, extradition of criminals, and construction of safe cities.

Welcoming the Pakistani High Commissioner, the Advisor said that the relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan are spiritual and historical. He said that the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs visited Pakistan at the end of last September. Through this, the bilateral relations between the two countries have been further strengthened. The Senior Secretary highly praised Pakistan’s infrastructure development and overall management. Especially their ‘Safe City’ project which can be implemented in our country as well. The advisor said, we are working towards that goal. Pakistan will provide necessary assistance to Bangladesh in this regard.

The advisor said, a memorandum of understanding or agreement will be signed to strengthen cooperation between the police academies of the two countries. Moreover, there is currently no legal instrument for the mutual exchange or transfer of criminals between the two countries. Although an initiative was taken to sign an agreement in this regard in 2004, it was not implemented later. He said, initiatives will be taken again to sign an agreement in this regard.

The High Commissioner said that Pakistan is interested in cooperating in the procurement of armored security vehicles, drones and agricultural mechanization for the Bangladesh Police.

Additional Secretary (Political) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Khandaker Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Counselor of the Pakistan Embassy Kamran Dhangal and others were present in the meeting.
