Law and order situation to remain good in national elections – Home Affairs Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has expressed optimism that the law and order situation will remain good in the upcoming national elections.

The advisor expressed this optimism while briefing reporters after the 10th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that the government will provide all the necessary assistance and cooperation to conduct the elections. This is everyone’s expectation that the Election Commission will present a good election to the nation. And the role of law and order forces is paramount in providing a fair election. He said that the law and order situation during elections does not only depend on the law and order forces. It also depends on those who participate in the elections. We hope that with the joint cooperation and efforts of everyone, we will be able to provide a fair election.

In response to journalists’ questions about what else was discussed about the national election, the advisor said that there was a discussion on how to maintain good law and order in the election. He said that the heads of almost all the forces were present in today’s meeting. They assured to maintain good law and order in the next national election. They are alert and ready in this regard. The advisor also said that there will be an agenda related to this in the upcoming meetings of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order.

Stating that the Bangladesh Awami League has become inactive, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that yesterday (June 23) was the founding anniversary of the Awami League. They could not gather as much as everyone had hoped. The Awami League is gradually becoming inactive. Expressing regret over the harassment of the former Chief Election Commissioner, the advisor said that mob violence is decreasing much more than before.
