Law and order situation in the country is much better than before – Home Minister

Desk Report:

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that the law and order situation in the country has improved a lot.

The minister said this at a briefing to journalists after a view-exchange meeting with Fire Service and Civil Defense officials at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday (March 01, 2026) afternoon.

The minister said that there has been visible improvement in law and order control in the last 13 days. Now the law and order situation is much better than before. He said that when a good political government is established, stability comes to the country; peace and certainty come to the minds of the people. For these reasons, the law and order situation is much better than before. He also said that a brutal murder took place in Narsingdi. We said that all the criminals should be arrested within 24 to 48 hours. The main accused was arrested there within 24 hours. The minister said that two or three more such incidents have occurred. In all cases, the law enforcement agencies have been able to arrest the accused in the fastest time. He said, “We are not the ones who predict that we will know before the incident happens. But whether we are fulfilling our responsibilities after the incident happens is a matter for people to see. We have been able to show that to the people.”

The minister also said that the people have already understood how sincere and strict the law enforcement agencies are. He said, “I have instructed the law enforcement agencies – the responsibility of investigation is ours. We will submit a charge sheet to the court through a very quick investigation in any incident so that justice can be ensured.”

In response to a question from journalists, Salahuddin Ahmed said that in the last one and a half years, around 133 ordinances have been issued during the tenure of the interim government. How many of these ordinances are sensitive? The minister said that these ordinances will be presented on the first day of the National Assembly session. According to the rules of parliament, which parliament will adopt those ordinances will be decided in the National Assembly. Some ordinances may be adopted with amendments – that will also be decided in the National Parliament. Some may not be needed, and will also expire – that will also be decided in the National Parliament. He said that the Law Ministry is working on that. I hope that all of you will be informed about this when the Parliament session begins.
