BNP’s Microfinance Secretary and former Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP President Dr. MA Qayyum has been setting an example of humanity by standing by the helpless and distressed people for a long time, said BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Farhad Halim Doner.
He said that the role that Dr. MA Qayyum has played in standing by the people during disasters and crises, in addition to his political life, is commendable.
Dr. Farhad Halim Doner said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the monthly financial donation ceremony for the family members of the injured and martyred in the 2024 mass uprising in Gulshan-2 of the capital on Monday (August 17).

He said, ‘In 1988, Dr. MA Qayyum had helped me and set up 34 relief camps to help the flood-affected people. I was impressed by his activities then. He has worked for the people.’
Dr. Farhad Halim Doner further said that even while staying abroad, Dr. MA Qayyum always encouraged people to come forward to help the helpless. He also mentioned that when party leaders and activists were in prison, he stood by their families and went to many people’s homes to help them.
This member of the BNP Standing Committee said, ‘Our Qayyum brother was forcibly defeated in the election. He did not lose. Because the people of this area know him well and he is popular.’
Regarding the initiative to stand by the families of those injured and killed in the July Uprising, he said that although such financial assistance was supposed to be done by local public representatives, the commendable initiative that Dr. MA Qayyum has taken despite not being a member of parliament is very important. At the same time, he urged the wealthy and capable people of the society to come forward for such humanitarian activities.
At the event, Dr. MA Qayyum, as a member of the BNP Standing Committee, He expressed his gratitude and thanks to the party chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for selecting Farhad Halim Donor. He also highlighted the contribution of Dr. Farhad Halim Donor during various movements, struggles and disasters.
Dr. MA Qayyum said that the current government has undertaken various activities for the welfare of the people of the country. The example that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has set by living like a common man and standing by the people is commendable.
He said, ‘The July warriors are part of our family. In addition to the facilities that the current government is providing for them, I am also cooperating to the best of my ability.’
The family members of those injured and killed in the July uprising, as well as BNP leaders and activists, were present at the ceremony. At that time, monthly financial assistance was handed over to about 40 families.
