July Charter must be given legal basis through referendum: Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that if there is no speedy national election in the country, various kinds of chaos may arise. Therefore, the national election should be held in February. However, he commented that the ‘July Charter’ must be given legal validity through a referendum before that.

He said these things while exchanging views with journalists at the VIP lounge of Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Wednesday (November 5) morning after arriving in Sylhet on a two-day organizational tour.

He said that there is no chance for the Awami League to participate in the next election. Elections under the PR system are Jamaat’s main demand. He believes that the common people will also support it if elections are held under this system. He further said that Jamaat will not form any alliance; however, an electoral agreement can be reached with the patriotic and democratic forces of the anti-fascist movement. If necessary, there may be changes in the announced list of parliament member candidates.

Present at the time were Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Ed. Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Working Committee Member and Sylhet Metropolitan Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, Central Majlish-e-Shura Member and Sylhet District Ameer Maulana Habibur Rahman and other leaders.
