Iranian Ambassador Dr. Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi paid a courtesy call on National Assembly Speaker Hafizuddin Ahmad Bir Bikram MP at the Parliament House on Monday (June 22, 2026). During this, the Speaker emphasized the importance of forming a parliamentary team between the two countries to establish close relations between the Iranian Parliament and the Parliament of Bangladesh.
Iranians, referring to the nation of heroes, praised the courageous role of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during the war. The Speaker believed that both countries would benefit if trade between the two countries increased and areas of economic cooperation expanded. At this time, the Iranian Ambassador sought the Speaker’s cooperation in launching a direct Dhaka-Tehran flight. The Ambassador also requested the Speaker to encourage Bangladeshis to receive world-class medical services in Iran. He also expressed his hope to increase trade and investment in Bangladesh to $1 billion. The Iranian ambassador proposed to the Speaker to export Iranian petrochemicals, urea fertilizers and food products to Bangladesh at affordable prices. He informed the Speaker that Tehran is interested in importing world-class garments from Bangladesh.
The ambassador thanked and expressed his gratitude to the Speaker for passing the condolence resolution in the Bangladesh National Parliament on the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
At the same time, the ambassador sought the Speaker’s cooperation in cultural exchange and the renewal of the duty-free trade agreement between Iran and Bangladesh. In addition to increasing relations with the people of the two countries, the ambassador sought the Speaker’s cooperation in strengthening parliamentary relations between the two countries.
