Calling on media persons to set the limits of accountability for the maximum freedom of the media, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said, inform the government how much and how the limits of accountability should be set to ensure maximum media freedom.
He said, the Ministry of Information is ready to fulfill its responsibility so that no intelligence agency, state or non-state intervention can hinder the media in any way within the limits you have set.
The Information Minister said this while delivering the chief guest speech at the Iftar Mahfil organized by the Chittagong Press Club on Wednesday (March 4, 2026) evening.
State Minister for the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, delivered the keynote address at the Iftar Mahfil organized at the swimming pool side of the Chittagong Club.
Addressing journalists and media owners, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said, “The media is not a formal pillar of the modern state system. But the media exists alongside the judiciary, executive and legal departments in such a way that political science calls the media the fourth pillar of the state. I am very fortunate that our Prime Minister has placed his trust in me to fulfill this responsibility.”
