India expressed wish to work with the interim government of Bangladesh in a courtesy meeting with the foreign adviser.

Foreign Adviser. Touhid Hussain emphasized on some key issues like stopping border killings with India, Teesta water sharing agreement and ensuring supply of essential commodities.
According to a press release of the Ministry, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Prannoy Verma met with the Foreign Affairs Advisor at the Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday (August 14) and he raised these issues.

During the meeting, the adviser emphasized the importance of increasing more ‘people-centric engagement’ with New Delhi in the coming days.

Regarding the recent statement of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Hossain pointed out that such statements coming from India are not helpful for the improvement of bilateral relations.

He also pointed out the exaggerated propaganda in the Indian media about the incident in Bangladesh. The adviser reiterated that Bangladesh wants to work closely with India to develop bilateral relations.

The Indian High Commissioner congratulated the Adviser on his new assignment and referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wishes for Chief Adviser Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The High Commissioner expressed the interest of the Government of India to work with the Interim Government of Bangladesh in the coming days to fulfill the aspirations of the people of the two countries.

The Foreign Adviser thanked the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for congratulating the Chief Adviser on his new duties.

Tauhid Hossain affirmed the commitment of the interim government to ensure peaceful coexistence of various communities including minorities in Bangladesh.

He noted that the government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all religious and ethnic groups and that no violence or intimidation against them will be tolerated.

He mentioned that Bangladesh achieved its second independence last week through a popular uprising led by brave students.

He said that the collective power of students and people to end discrimination and injustice has won against dictatorship and oppressive forces.

Tauhid Hossain said, the movement of fearless students against the discriminatory recruitment system of government jobs soon turned into a nationwide revolutionary struggle to establish a rule-based and justice-based and fair and inclusive society.

Nobel laureate Dr. He mentioned that Muhammad Yunus agreed to take the leadership of the interim government on the request of students and people.
