India committed to deepening partnership with Bangladesh: Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma

Diplomatic Desk:

At a reception organized by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma reiterated his commitment to further strengthen the long-standing friendship and partnership with Bangladesh.

Speaking at the event organized at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in the capital, he said that on January 26, 1950, India emerged as a sovereign republic by adopting its constitution and committed itself to the ideals of justice, freedom, equality and education. In the last 76 years, India has transformed from a poor country into the largest democracy and one of the largest economies in the world.

High Commissioner Pranay Verma said that Bangladesh is an important companion in this journey. The common sacrifice and self-sacrifice during the great liberation war of 1971 has taken the relations of the two countries to a special height, which continues to serve as the foundation of Bangladesh-India relations even today.

He further said that the cultural and humanitarian ties between the people of the two countries are very deep. Starting from the literary works of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, this closeness is clearly reflected in various genres of music, art and culture. This cultural affinity has further strengthened the relations between the two countries.

Pranay Verma mentioned that in recent years, there has been significant progress in connectivity, trade, energy and economic cooperation. Cross-border energy pipelines, power transmission lines and cooperation in pharmaceutical and digital services are real examples of the mutual dependence of the two countries.

Regarding future plans, he said that India and Bangladesh are capable of building more visionary and future-oriented cooperation on the basis of innovation, technology and sustainable development. By harnessing the power of young, skilled and enterprising people, the two countries can become the hub of regional connectivity and support for each other’s sustainable growth.

In the speech of the chief guest at the event, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources; Advisor to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Dr. Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan said that the celebration of India’s 77th Republic Day is an important occasion to remember the Bangladesh-India friendship once again. He extended his warm greetings to all those present.

Dr. Fauzul Kabir Khan said that the people of Bangladesh remember with eternal gratitude the contribution of the people of India during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. The relations between the two countries have been developed on the basis of geographical proximity, common history and common aspirations. He said that the relations between Bangladesh and India are multidimensional and both countries are committed to strengthening this relationship for the welfare and development of the people.

He also said that the relations between Bangladesh and India will deepen further in the future on the basis of mutual trust and respect. Although there are some challenges, the two countries have successfully overcome them in the past and it is possible to face challenges through cooperation in the future.

Eminent figures from various levels of diplomatic, government and private sectors, political leaders, businessmen, representatives of civil society and media personnel were present at the event.
