Home Affairs Advisor urges RAB members to forget the past and work with new enthusiasm

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has urged the members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to forget the past and work with new enthusiasm.

The advisor made this call as the chief guest at the 21st founding anniversary of RAB Forces at the RAB Headquarters in Uttara in the capital on Wednesday (May 21, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that RAB must work in accordance with the law and uphold human rights. He said that the current interim government is committed to establishing good governance, human rights and justice. The government is working to re-evaluate, reform and restructure RAB’s activities with the aim of establishing the rule of law. Hopefully, the people will soon reap the benefits of this.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that ever since RAB started being used as a political tool, especially for the purpose of suppressing and oppressing the opponents, allegations of various human rights violations including disappearances and murders have been made against the force. This reached its highest level during the previous fascist government. Therefore, the use of RAB for political interests must be completely stopped. The advisor said that in recent times, RAB has been conducting various activities including arresting criminals, recovering illegal weapons, and conducting anti-drug operations to maintain the law and order situation in the country.

RAB Director General (Grade-1) AKM Shahidur Rahman delivered the welcome speech at the event. Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, IGP Baharul Alam and high-ranking military and civilian officials participated in the event.

A documentary about RAB’s activities was shown at the event. The advisor cut a cake and participated in a photo session to mark the anniversary.
