Desk Report:
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has said that the current government’s stance against drugs, terrorism, extortion and corruption is very strict and uncompromising. The government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against these crimes will be implemented 100 percent at the field level to protect the stability of the state and society.
The minister said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting organized with district government officials and local dignitaries at the Bandarban District Commissioner’s conference room yesterday.
The minister said that whoever is accused of drugs, terrorism or extortion, he will not be spared in any way. No party identity of the criminal will be considered. If any person from our party is involved in these misdeeds, he will also have to come under the purview of the law. The government will not accept any act that disrupts public security.
Noting that a people’s representative government has been formed through free and fair elections after a long time, Dipen Dewan said, the main goal of the government elected by the people’s votes is development. New doors of development have been opened as the elected government takes office. The local government system will be made stronger and more dynamic in stages.
The minister called on government officials to perform their duties with dedication and said that the quality of life and infrastructural development of the hilly region largely depends on the concerned ministry. Therefore, every employee must be more responsible and people-friendly.
The minister emphasized on improving the quality of primary education. He listened to the real situation and problems from the concerned officials and assured that if immediate solutions are not possible, they will be taken to the higher level with seriousness.
High-ranking government officials working in the Bandarban Hill District, local dignitaries and representatives of print and electronic media were present at the view-sharing meeting.
After the exchange of views, the minister inaugurated the Maitree Pani Barshan (Jalkeli) program organized on the occasion of the main social festival of the Marma community ‘Maha Sangrai Poe 2026’ at Rajar Maidan in Bandarban district headquarters. During this, he called on everyone to work unitedly to protect communal harmony and culture in the hilly region.
