Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed said that one of the goals of the interim government is to establish the people’s right to vote through a free and fair election and transfer power to a democratic government.
Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed said this in his proposed budget speech for the fiscal year 2025-26 on Monday. His speech was broadcast live on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar.
He said that the country’s electoral system has been completely dismantled in the last one and a half decades. Therefore, we have given top priority to reforming the electoral system and have undertaken activities to amend and reform various laws, policies, and orders for this purpose.
The Finance Advisor said that the Bangladesh Election Commission has already updated the voter list in preparation for organizing the next national parliamentary elections in a smooth manner. Geographic Information System (GIS) technology is being used to ensure transparency, impartiality, and proper data analysis in the electoral system.
The proposed budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year proposes an allocation of Tk 2,725 crore for the Election Commission (EC).
The budget for this sector last year was Tk 793 crore, which stood at Tk 716 crore in the revised budget.
