Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed a national budget of Tk 938,000 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The proposed budget is 13.7 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), which is Tk 148,000 crore more than the current fiscal year.
While presenting the budget speech in the National Parliament today (June 11, 2026), the Finance Minister said that in the next fiscal year, the government has adopted a policy of increasing development expenditure and relatively reducing operating expenditure. Through this, development activities will be given more priority in the government expenditure structure.
The proposed budget has allocated Tk 3 lakh crore for the Annual Development Program (ADP). In total, the total amount of development expenditure has been estimated at Tk 3 lakh 16 thousand 75 crore. On the other hand, allocation of Tk 6 lakh 21 thousand 925 crore has been proposed for other sectors including operating expenditure.
In his budget speech, the Finance Minister further said that the government is gradually following the policy of increasing the share of development expenditure in the budget. Accordingly, it has been proposed to increase the share of development expenditure to 33.70 percent in the next fiscal year, which was 27.27 percent in the revised budget of the current fiscal year.
On the other hand, initiatives have been taken to reduce the share of operational expenditure. Although 72.73 percent of the total expenditure in the current fiscal year was spent on the operational sector, it has been proposed to reduce it to 66.30 percent in the next fiscal year.
