FBCCI and Thai-Bangladesh Business Council hold meeting to increasing bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation

Businessmen from both countries have given importance to increasing bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Thailand to expand markets in the Southeast and Asia Pacific regions. For this, they consider the implementation of a regional free trade agreement (FTA) to be essential.

These issues came up at a meeting held between FBCCI and Thai-Bangladesh Business Council in Gulshan on Wednesday (July 09, 2025).

The meeting was presided over by FBCCI Administrator Md. Hafizur Rahman. Charge d’Affairs of the Royal Thai Embassy Mr. Panom Thongprayun was present at the time.

Referring to the trade potential between Bangladesh and Thailand in the meeting, FBCCI Administrator Md. Hafizur Rahman said that Thailand is one of the commercial hubs in the Asia Pacific region. And, Bangladesh has a huge skilled and young workforce. There are ample opportunities to increase the competitiveness of both countries by utilizing these advantages. In this regard, the FBCCI administrator mentioned the investment potential in sectors such as processed food, tourism, healthcare and medicine, infrastructure, energy and light engineering.

Expressing optimism that both countries will move forward on the issue of a free trade agreement or FTA, Md. Hafizur Rahman Rahman said that through the implementation of the trade agreement, the import and export of goods and services will be further enhanced. Along with this, investment will be encouraged. At this time, he emphasized on the regional free trade agreement (FTA) to utilize the market advantages of the Southeast and Asia Pacific regions.

Charge d’Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy Panom Thongprayun is optimistic that both sides will work closely to develop bilateral trade and mutual cooperation relations between Thailand and Bangladesh. He expects that networking between businessmen of the two countries will be further strengthened through this meeting.

Among others present at the meeting were Shams Mahmud, President of the Thai-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and former President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Md. Munir Hossain, Senior Vice President of the Thai-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and former Vice President of FBCCI, Md. Alamgir, Secretary General of FBCCI, Md. Zafar Iqbal, NDC, Head of the International Affairs Wing of FBCCI, leaders of the Thai-Bangladesh Business Council, and businessmen and entrepreneurs from both countries.
