EU plans to invest €1.3 billion in renewable energy in Bangladesh

As part of the EU’s ongoing ‘I’ve Got the Power’ campaign, the EU Ambassador last week welcomed Dr. Fouzul Kabir Khan, the Honorable Power and Energy Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh. The high-level meeting was organized to discuss Bangladesh’s potential and policies in the renewable energy sector.

The meeting was attended by a delegation from the European Union, officials from the European Investment Bank, development partners and financial institutions of EU member states, and leaders in the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh. Notable among them were ‘Shaktikanya’ – a new generation of empowered young women leaders who are playing a significant role in the advancement of renewable energy.

The discussions focused on identifying priority projects to be implemented under the EU’s announced €1.3 billion investment proposal and preparing a new renewable energy policy for Bangladesh.
