On the orders of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu, an operation was conducted in Mathbaria, Pirojpur and sawdust and about 150 kg of meat of the endangered species of sawfish (Largetooth Sawfish) were recovered.
The operation was conducted in coordination with the Social Forest Department, Bagerhat, Upazila Administration and law enforcement agencies in Dakshin Bandar Bazar of Mathbaria Upazila on Thursday (April 02, 2026). No one could be arrested at that time. At the spot, fish traders and shopkeepers were warned about punishment for hunting, killing, buying and selling wild animals and everyone’s cooperation was sought in the conservation of wild and endangered species of animals.
Samples of the recovered sawdust and 2-3 kg of bones and meat were collected and the rest were buried in the Water Development Board premises adjacent to Mathbaria Police Station. The samples were sent to Dhaka yesterday through a representative of the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department, Khulna.
