Desk Report:
Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh, Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, BPM, has stated that Durga Puja is being celebrated peacefully across more than 33,000 puja mandaps (pavilions) nationwide. He noted that a peaceful environment has been maintained in these mandaps through the collective efforts of all involved and in coordination with the Puja Celebration Committee. He also expressed optimism that the festival will continue to be observed smoothly and successfully until the immersion of the idols.

The IGP made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Saturday evening (October 17, 2026), following an inspection of the security arrangements for Durga Puja at the Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital.
The IGP mentioned that some individuals are attempting to spread confusion surrounding Durga Puja. He urged the public to remain vigilant and not to pay heed to any rumors. He further called upon everyone to stand united against evil forces, much like Goddess Durga herself.

Regarding the operations of the Bangladesh Police, Md. Ali Hossain Fakir explained that police activities were effectively halted for five to seven days following August 5. During that period, concerns arose regarding public safety, and various untoward incidents—including muggings, robberies, and other crimes—occurred. However, with the cooperation of all, the Bangladesh Police have managed to overcome that situation and regain their operational footing.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Puja Celebration Council praised the role of the police force in ensuring security for the festival. They noted that because the police have secured every puja mandap, followers of the Sanatan faith are able to celebrate the festival safely and without any hindrance.
Senior police officials and leaders of the Puja Celebration Council were present during the inspection.
