Doctors should dedicate themselves to medical services with their own responsibility, creativity, mindfulness and ability, said Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The Chief Advisor said this at the inaugural ceremony of the Civil Surgeon Conference 2025 at the Shapla Hall of the Chief Advisor’s office on Monday (May 12, 2025). The two-day conference of district civil surgeons began today. This conference is being held for the first time in Bangladesh.
At the conference, the Chief Advisor said, “We all understand that healthcare is unhealthy and blame each other… But blaming will not eliminate the unhealthy. This needs to be remedied so that we can improve healthcare.” If all the countries and nations in the world can do their own healthcare better than us, then what is our negligence, what is our deficiency that we cannot do… Ask ourselves how we can fix this.’
‘With the medical equipment or facilities we have, if we can make up our minds to change in this situation, then I am sure that Bangladesh’s healthcare will improve by 25 percent,’ said the Chief Advisor.
At the conference, Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum congratulated all the doctors for risking their lives during the Covid pandemic and the July Movement.
Mentioning that civil surgeons are the main players in healthcare, she further said, ‘Although we have had considerable success in the healthcare sector, Bangladesh’s healthcare sector is still far behind due to the obvious shortage of manpower, including medicine and equipment. But civil surgeons will use their intellect, thinking and responsibility to take the healthcare sector forward.’
The Health Advisor said that the promotion work is underway by creating seven thousand supernumerary posts. He expressed hope that not only doctors but also nurses will be recruited.
Special Assistant Professor Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Chief Advisor on the Ministry of Health, said that the health sector can improve only if the problems of promotion, posting, budget and shortage of medicines are solved. He also mentioned that a unique health card will be made to restructure the health sector.
Dhaka Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr. Abu Zafar also spoke at today’s conference.
