Plans are being made to build two separate hospitals in Hathazari and Karnaphuli areas, said Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum. Besides, there are plans to build a dental college and a dental hospital in Kalurghat area, she said.
Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus participated in a view-sharing meeting on ‘Relief from waterlogging in Chittagong metropolis and development of Oxygen-Hathazari highway’ at the Circuit House in Chittagong today (May 14, 2025). Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum was present with him at the time.
The Health Advisor said this in response to a question regarding the heavy pressure of patients on the Chittagong Medical College Hospital in the port city.
He said, ‘I visited the hospital. I saw that the capacity is 2,200 but there are about 5,000 patients. Brain surgery patients are treated lying on the floor, and patients are treated lying on the floor next to the toilet. To ensure healthcare, plans are underway to build two hospitals in Hathazari and Karnaphuli areas. With this, patients from the Rangamati-Kaptai area will be able to get services at Hathazari Hospital, and patients from the Patiya-Satkania-Chandanaish area will be able to get services at Karnaphuli Hospital.’
‘There is no dental college or dental hospital in Chittagong. Plans are also underway to build a dental college-hospital,’ he said.
