Commerce Minister urges Thai investors to invest more in Bangladesh

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has expressed hope that the economic cooperation between the two countries will reach new heights by further strengthening trade and investment relations between Bangladesh and Thailand. He urged Thai investors to invest more in various promising sectors of Bangladesh.

He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the three-day international trade exhibition ‘Top Thai Brands 2026’ at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Thursday (July 23, 2026).

Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Thitiporn Chirasawadi, officials of the Royal Thai Embassy, ​​representatives of participating Thai organizations, business leaders, entrepreneurs and media personnel were present at the event.

The Commerce Minister said that the relations between Bangladesh and Thailand are long-standing, based on mutual trust, respect and cooperation. The relations between the two countries are gradually expanding in the areas of trade, investment, tourism, culture and regional cooperation.

He said that Thailand is one of the most important trading partners of Bangladesh. Although trade between the two countries has increased, there is still a huge opportunity to expand trade and investment.

Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said, “Bangladesh has become an attractive destination for foreign investment due to its strategic location, large consumer market, skilled manpower and investment-friendly policies. We welcome Thai investment in various sectors including agro-processing, tourism, leather, ready-made garments, automobile parts, rubber products.”

He also said that Bangladesh is interested in increasing exports of medicines, processed food products, jute eco-friendly products, leather products and light engineering products to the Thai market.

The Commerce Minister said that international trade exhibitions are not only an opportunity to display products, but also an effective means of creating direct communication between manufacturers, importers, exporters, distributors, investors and entrepreneurs.

He said that events like ‘Top Thai Brands 2026’ will create new relationships between businessmen of the two countries and will play an important role in expanding trade.

Stating that the government is working to create a business and investment-friendly environment, he said that various initiatives have been taken to facilitate trade, develop infrastructure, digitalize and increase connectivity with international markets.

He highlighted the importance of responsible foreign investment and said that such investment will play an important role in creating employment, increasing the use of modern technology and developing the country’s industry.

The Commerce Minister urged the participating Thai companies to increase their contacts with Bangladeshi traders, importers, distributors and investors. He also urged Bangladeshi businessmen to explore new opportunities to export domestic products to the Thai market.

He expressed hope that ‘Top Thai Brands 2026’ will further strengthen trade, investment and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Thailand.

It is worth mentioning that 57 Thai companies are participating in the exhibition organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Ministry of Commerce of the Royal Thai Government and in collaboration with the Commercial Affairs Office of the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka.

The three-day exhibition will continue till July 25. It will be open to visitors from 10 am to 8 pm every day at Pan Pacific Sonargaon.
