Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Afroza Khanam (Rita) called for zero tolerance policy to ensure expatriate-friendly services and prevent irregularities.
The minister made this call at a view-exchange meeting with the officials and employees of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) at the conference room of the headquarters in Kurmitola, Dhaka on Thursday (March 5, 2026). State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was present at the time.
The minister said that improving the quality of service to passengers arriving from abroad is the need of the hour. Many expatriate brothers and sisters suffer when they arrive at the country’s airports without understanding various issues. Therefore, emphasizing on bringing positive changes in the type of service and behavior, he said that we must ensure that our expatriate brothers and sisters do not suffer any kind of hardship. It should be remembered that their hard-earned money is making an important contribution to the country’s economy and our salaries are paid from that money. Therefore, we must show the utmost respect and sincerity towards them.
State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said that as part of showing respect to expatriate workers, a culture of addressing them as ‘Sir’ should be developed. At the same time, he directed the airport to maintain overall cleanliness, strengthen monitoring systems and all concerned to fulfill their respective responsibilities properly.
He also said that utmost caution should be taken to prevent any kind of fire or security risk in the future. Accountability should be increased at all levels to ensure passenger service and a zero tolerance policy should be followed against irregularities.
Later, the Minister and State Minister visited the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on-site and reviewed its implementation progress. In addition, they sought the cooperation of all concerned in quickly opening the terminal for public use.
At that time, they visited the Cargo Village and Import Cargo Terminal affected by the fire and observed the current situation.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Nasreen Jahan, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal Mustafa Mahmud Siddique, and senior officials of the ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority.
