Chief Advisor to pay three-day official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister

At the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Honorable Chief Advisor of Bangladesh Dr. Muhammad Yunus will pay an official visit to Malaysia from 11-13 August 2025. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Foreign Affairs Advisor, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Advisor, Advisor on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, National Security Advisor, Special Envoy on International Affairs and senior government officials.

On the first day of the visit on 11 August, the Chief Advisor will be welcomed with a guard of honor and a formal reception. On 12 August, a private meeting between Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be held at the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, followed by a delegation-level bilateral meeting. A total of five MoUs are expected to be signed in the meeting, including on defense cooperation, energy sector, formation of business council, cooperation between BMCCI and MIMOS, and cooperation between BIISS and ISIS of Malaysia. In addition, three ‘exchanges of notes’ are likely to be signed on cooperation between halal ecosystem, higher education and diplomatic training academy. The heads of government of the two countries will be present at the signing and exchange of notes ceremony.

A joint press conference and a state luncheon in honor of the Principal Advisor will be held after the bilateral meeting. On the same afternoon, Dr. Yunus will participate in a business forum and later exchange views with expatriate Bangladeshis. The meeting will seriously discuss the recruitment of new Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, increasing the number of professionals and ensuring the welfare of workers.

On August 13, the Chief Advisor will meet with His Royal Highness the late Raja Tuangku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuangku Munawwi, Chancellor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Ruler of Negeri Sembilan Province. At this time, UKM will confer an honorary doctorate degree on him and he will deliver a commemorative speech to the university students.

During the visit, issues of strengthening cooperation in various fields including trade and investment expansion, energy cooperation, halal economy, semiconductor industry, agriculture, education and public relations will be discussed. In addition to becoming a ‘Sectoral Dialogue Partner’ of ASEAN, Bangladesh will also strongly raise its application to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The Chief Advisor will call on ASEAN countries, including Malaysia, to play a more active role in the repatriation of Rohingyas.
