Chief Advisor emphasizes on building public awareness and control system to prevent non-communicable diseases

Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has emphasized on building public awareness and control system to prevent non-communicable diseases.

A ‘Joint Declaration’ to increase inter-ministerial cooperation was signed at a function organized at the Chief Advisor’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) to take and implement coordinated initiatives to prevent and control non-communicable diseases.

Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus was present as the chief guest. At this time, he emphasized on building public awareness and control system to prevent non-communicable diseases.

Speaking at the function, Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said that just as it is important to improve the treatment management of non-communicable diseases, it is also necessary to develop appropriate public awareness and prevention and control systems so that the diseases are reduced or eliminated.

He called for not limiting health to the medical sector but also transforming it into a social movement.

The event organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was attended by advisors, special assistants to the principal advisor, secretaries of various ministries and senior government officials. 35 ministries or departments signed the joint declaration. The principal advisor handed over the joint declaration to the senior secretaries of five ministries at the event.

Among others, Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Health Affairs Professor Dr. Saidur Rahman, Program Management Director for South-East Asia of the World Health Organization Dr. Thaksaphon Thamarangsi and Secretary of the Health Services Department Md. Saidur Rahman spoke at the event.
