Chief Advisor directs for immediate implementation of Health Reform Commission recommendations

Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed that the recommendations of the Health Reform Commission will play an important role in resolving the long-standing problems in the country’s health sector and has directed that initiatives be taken to implement the recommendations that are immediately implementable.

He gave this instruction after the Health Reform Commission presented their report to the Honorable Chief Advisor at the State Guest House Jamuna today, Monday (5 May 2025).

Terming the report of the Health Reform Commission as a groundbreaking step, he said, “The problems in the health sector are long-standing problems, if we can solve these problems through this, it will be a groundbreaking event.”

He said that those concerned should immediately focus on the recommendations that are immediately implementable in implementing the recommendations of the Reform Commission.

“A big problem is the shortage of doctors, and in some cases, even if there are doctors, there are no doctors where they are needed. This problem must be solved permanently,” said the Chief Advisor.

Emphasizing on the decentralization of the medical system, he said, “Without this, it is not possible to solve the problem. We have to ensure that doctors stay where they are posted.”

The members of the commission, led by National Professor Dr. AK Azad Khan, handed over their report to the chief advisor.

Also present at the time were Professor Dr. Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Professor Liaquat Ali, Dr. Saeba Akhter, Department of Public Health and Health Informatics of Bangladesh Medical University; Former Secretary MM Reza, Dr. Azharul Islam, Dr. Syed Md. Akram Hossain, Dr. Syed Atiqul Haque, Dr. Ahmed Ehsanur Rahman and student representative Umair Afif.

The other two members of the Health Reform Commission are Dr. Naila Zaman Khan, Dr. Mozaherul Haque.
