Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged students to dream of building a new world.
While addressing the 5th convocation ceremony of Chittagong University (CU) on Wednesday (May 14, 2025), he said, “We have the ability to build something new that we desire.” The convocation ceremony was held at the university’s central playground.

In his convocation speech, Professor Yunus said, ‘We can build a new world as we wish.’ However, he said, everyone needs to have a dream – about the kind of environment and society they want to establish.
Recalling the background of the establishment of Grameen Bank, the Chief Adviser said that the civilization that is currently going on is a civilization of a destructive economy.
He said, ‘The economy that we have created is not for people, but for business.’ He mentioned that this business-centric civilization is suicidal and will not survive.
At the ceremony, the CU authorities awarded Professor Yunus with an honorary Doctorate of Literature (D. Litt) for his outstanding contribution to poverty alleviation and peace building through microcredit.
CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Yahya Akhtar presented the D. Litt certificate to Professor Yunus.
Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and University Grants Commission Chairman Professor Dr. S. M. A. Faiz, among others, also spoke at the convocation.
CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Md. Kamal Uddin were also present at the time.
