Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Delegation met Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin. The delegation was led by Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Representative Paul Thopil.
The meeting was held on Sunday (May 4, 2025) afternoon at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat. In the meeting, they discussed in detail the enhancement of bilateral trade, investment and cooperation.

Stressing the need to identify areas for expanding trade and investment between Canada and Bangladesh, Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that a win-win business relationship would be beneficial for both countries.
Urging Canada to invest more in Bangladesh, the Adviser said that there is a great demand for renewable energy in Bangladesh. Land is being allocated for long-term industrial use in the Mirsarai Economic Zone in Chittagong. Canadian businessmen can benefit themselves by investing here and help Bangladesh benefit as well.
Paul Thopil said that Bangladesh is one of Canada’s major trading partners. The country is also a significant buyer of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry. At the same time, he emphasized the implementation of the Joint Working Group and the Air Service Agreement to increase trade between the two countries.
Canada’s Indo-Pacific Trade Representative said that his country is interested in investing in Bangladesh in information technology, agriculture, animal husbandry and dairy sectors, renewable energy sector, airport modernization, increasing facilities in cargo villages and building international-standard hotels to develop tourism.
Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Ajit Singh, Senior Trade Commissioner Debra Boyce, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Nasreen Jahan, and Chairman of the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority Air Vice Marshal Md. Manjur Kabir Bhuiyan were present at the time.
