Body-worn cameras to be provided at 47,000 polling stations in national elections – Home Affairs Advisor

One body-worn camera will be provided at each of 47,000 polling stations to improve the law and order situation, including making the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections free, fair and neutral, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said.

The advisor made this statement while briefing journalists after a meeting held at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (August 06, 2025) afternoon to take decisions on formulating various action plans for law and order forces to conduct the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections smoothly.

The advisor said that in today’s discussion meeting, there was a discussion on how many forces will be required to conduct elections across the country. He said that the number of law and order forces around the elections will be around eight lakh. This will include the police, Ansar, BGB, and the army. All forces will be trained. He also said that arrangements will be made so that the presiding officers can be at the polling station without staying at anyone’s house. All the Ansar and police will be with them.

Responding to a question from reporters about who will get body-worn cameras, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, “We will try to provide one body-worn camera to each of our 47,000 polling stations. The senior police officer will have a body-worn camera.” The advisor said that training is being arranged for all the forces assigned to the election. In addition, the Election Commission will train polling officers and presiding officers. He said that after the training of the forces, arrangements will also be made to give them exercises. Practice will be done so that the election can be held fairly, impartially and well.

Regarding the transfer of 76 officers of the rank of DIG, Additional DIG and Superintendent of Police to the attached posts, the advisor said that it is a routine matter. It will always be ongoing.

Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Home Affairs Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Gani and others were present during the briefing.
