BGMEA’s priority is to ensure children’s education, healthcare and a safe environment, not just compliance: Vidiya Amrit Khan

Highlighting the garment industry’s contribution to the protection and development of child rights, BGMEA Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan said that child labor has no place in its member factories.

“BGMEA follows strict compliance policies and our zero-tolerance policy on child labor has been maintained for a long time,” she said.

She was a prominent speaker at the public launch of the Child Rights Manifesto 2025 organized by UNICEF Bangladesh at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center (BCFCC) on Monday (December 1, 2025).

The event was attended by political leaders, civil society, youth representatives, industry stakeholders and development partners. The declared Child Rights Manifesto is based on the experiences, opinions and aspirations of more than 180 children and youth from different parts of the country.

Vidiya Amrit Khan said, “BGMEA is not limited to ensuring compliance only; we also give equal importance to ensuring education, healthcare and a safe environment for children.”

She also mentioned the need to increase awareness to ensure the protection of children from physical and mental abuse.

She further said, “The progress of a nation depends on the healthy development of its children. Therefore, the garment sector of Bangladesh will continue to play a responsible role as a protector of child rights and a companion of development.”

UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Rana Flowers and other speakers were present at the event. BGMEA Director Asif Kamal Pasha also participated in the event.
