BGMEA Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan Calls for Sector-Aligned Policies to Boost Renewable Energy in RMG Sector

BGMEA participated in a multi-stakeholder dialogue on Renewable Energy & Decarbonisation organized by ETI Bangladesh on Thurday (December 4, 2025). The event brought together industry associations, global brands, manufacturers, financial institutions, and renewable energy experts to explore collaborative pathways for accelerating the ready-made garment (RMG) sector’s transition toward cleaner energy.

Speaking at the session, BGMEA Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan emphasized that Bangladesh’s RMG sector needs a dedicated, sector-aligned policy framework to scale renewable energy adoption. She highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration between manufacturers and global brands to attract long-term investments, along with simplified and affordable financing mechanisms, especially for SMEs, which face significant barriers in adopting energy-efficient and renewable technologies.

Vidiya Amrit Khan also pointed to ongoing national discussions on the Merchant Power Purchase Policy 2025, stressing that an effective policy framework will be crucial for enabling long-term renewable energy uptake.

BGMEA Standing Committee Co-Chair on Decarbonisation, Kamran Sadique, also spoke at the event, underlining the need for a national data monitoring platform and a unified mechanism to track industrial emissions. He noted that such a platform would enhance transparency and help align the sector with evolving global due-diligence requirements.
