BGMEA-Amfori Discussion on Sustainable Development and Transparent Audits in the Garment Industry

On Wednesday (August 6, 2025), AMFORI Head of Business Development and Networks John Stellenson met with BGMEA Acting President Enamul Haque Khan.

The meeting discussed the sustainable development of the garment industry and streamlining the audit process. According to both parties, the repetition of the same type of audits is creating unnecessary pressure on factories and suppliers.

AMFORI outlined its new action plan, which emphasizes shifting the responsibility for sustainable development more to suppliers and manufacturers. This will enable more accurate forecasting of supply chain performance and lead times.

BGMEA Acting President Enamul Haque Khan welcomed the new work plan of AMFORI and reiterated BGMEA’s strong commitment to establishing a unified standard for social and environmental standards in the garment industry.

Close collaboration and knowledge exchange are essential to make supply chain auditing more effective, cost-effective and transparent.

AMFORI is a global business organization working to build sustainable, transparent and environmentally friendly supply chains.
