Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, Pahela Boishakh is a unique symbol of the history, culture and identity of our nation. For centuries, this day has returned to our lives every year with the call for the new. The arrival of the new year provides inspiration to leave the old wear and tear and move forward.
In a message delivered today (April 13, 2026) on the occasion of tomorrow’s ‘Pahela Boishakh Bangla New Year’, he extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all Bengali-speaking people around the world, including the countrymen, on the first day of Pahela Boishakh Bangla New Year. He bid farewell to the Bengali year 1432 and welcomed the Bengali New Year 1433.
The Prime Minister said, ‘Pahela Boishakh is closely related to the agriculture, nature and agricultural-based economic activities of our region. Even in this golden age of information technology, farmers set the date for their crop production in harmony with nature. The thousand-year-old tradition, folk culture, culture and values of Bengal are revived through Pahela Baishakh.
She said, traditional events like Baisakhi Mela, Baisakhi Shobhajatra, Halkhata highlight the multidimensional beauty of our culture and inspire us with a sense of unity. Bengali New Year has brought us new expectations and new possibilities. The revival of nature and the optimism of the people’s hearts combine to create a vibrant festive atmosphere.
The Prime Minister said, after ending a long decade and a half of fascist exploitation, the new democratic government started its journey by winning the national elections held on February 12. Taking responsibility, this government has started implementing various programs to improve the quality of life of people from all walks of life in the state and society.
She said that as part of the implementation of the election promise, the government has already launched family cards, sports cards, canal excavation programs, and financial assistance programs for imams, muezzins, khatibs and religious leaders of other religions. The Farmers Card distribution program related to farmers, agriculture and agricultural economy has started from the first day of the Bengali New Year. In the coming days, this Farmers Card will be able to play a groundbreaking role in the farmers and agricultural economy of Bangladesh, let this be our conviction and expectation in the Bengali New Year.
She expressed hope that the practice of tolerance, generosity and harmony inherent in the religious and social values and culture of the people of Bangladesh will further strengthen democracy and strengthen the coexistence of diverse opinions. The world is today in turmoil due to various crises and conflicts. In this context, the practice of peace, compassion and mutual respect has become more urgent. On this auspicious occasion of the New Year, let us rise above narrow-mindedness and selfishness and follow the path of human welfare – this is our pledge. On the first morning of the New Year, we express our determination to overcome all the disappointments and limitations of the past and move forward with new enthusiasm.
