The new president of BASIS is M Rashidul Hasan and the senior vice president is Mostafizur Rahman Sohail. Recently Mr. Russell T Ahmed resigned from the post of President and Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan from the post of Vice President (Finance) and these two posts became vacant. Yesterday (Wednesday, 30 October 2024) in the emergency meeting of BASIS executive council (332nd meeting) among the members of the current executive council (2024-26), the senior vice-president Mr. M. Rashidul Hasan was elected as president, director Mr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman Sohail has been elected as Senior Vice President and Director Mr. M. Asif Rahman as Vice President (Finance). The BASIS Executive Council has decided to conduct all activities as usual without co-opting anyone other than the members of the Executive Council elected by the votes of the members.
BASIS Executive Council on 20th October 2024 1) Should the BASIS by-laws be amended and reformed and handed over by holding mid-term elections if necessary? Or 2) executive committee members should resign together? An automated voting initiative was taken to ask the opinion of the members in this regard. Of the 594 members who participated, 77.27% were in favor of “conducting elections with the members to complete the reforms” and 22.72% were in favor of “the current EC should resign now”.
Based on the opinion of the members, the current executive council has agreed to transfer the responsibility of the executive council through an election within the next 6 (six) months after completing the regular activities of BASIS and the promised reform works to protect the interests of its members. BASIS has also announced a possible roadmap for holding elections by April 2025 after the AGM/EGM by January 2025, with the ongoing BASIS Constitution Amendment, BASIS Membership Audit and Member Protection, much-needed and urgent reforms.
The leaders of BASIS called upon the members and stakeholders to give all possible support to the current executive council to carry out the necessary reform work properly and to keep the reputation and image of BASIS intact at home and abroad for the real development and development of the software and IT services sector.
President’s Introduction:
M Rashidul Hasan is a leading figure in the IT sector of Bangladesh. He has been making appreciable contributions in this sector for more than three decades. In 2001, he founded Systech Digital Limited, where he is currently the Chief Executive Officer. He also founded companies like Systech Digital Japan Inc., Systech Digital UK Limited. For more than 20 years he has been devoting his time to industry development both inside and outside the base. In BASIS, he has served several terms in various positions including Joint Secretary General, Vice President and Senior Vice President. He has successfully organized BASIS National ICT Awards, Softexpo, Epicta Awards Dhaka, Digital World Conference and Developer Conference. He was instrumental in introducing cash incentives and tax exemptions on IT exports. He is currently focused on cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, IoT and Cloud Computing and working to enable Bangladesh’s 2,600+ IT organizations to compete globally.
Introduction of Senior Vice President:
Mostafizur Rahman Sohel is a well-known ICT entrepreneur of Bangladesh. With two decades of experience in technology, economics and management, Sohail has been involved in software businesses in various countries. In his career, he has been involved in the development and commercialization of products such as DreamApps ERP, ERM Anywhere, ERP in a Box etc. He led the private sector in formulating a digital commerce policy for the first time in Bangladesh. He served as Joint General Secretary of BASIS in 2014-16 and as Director in 2016-18 and 2022-23. Sohail is the Past National President of JCI Bangladesh and an Honorary Senate Member of JCI International. He is also honored as the founder president of Dhaka Radiant Rotary Club.
