Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin has said that Bangladesh’s competitiveness in global trade will increase as the tariff rate on Bangladesh’s exports to the US market is reduced to 20 percent.
In an immediate reaction after signing an important trade agreement with the US, the advisor said, “The US has imposed a 20 percent tariff on products imported from Bangladesh. We will also be in a competitive position. As a result, our exports to the US market will not be affected. However, we expected it to be below 20 percent.”
After lengthy discussions and negotiations in Washington, the US has reduced the tariff on products imported from Bangladesh from 35 percent to 20 percent.
