Bangladeshi High Commissioner held meeting with Deputy Minister, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan, held a meeting with the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry and relevant agencies led by YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia, on 06 May 2025 at the Ministry.

At the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current growing bilateral trade relations and constructive discussion on the negotiations

of Free Trade Agreement between the two friendly countries, highlighting it as a positive step toward further strengthening bilateral cooperation. They emphasized the importance of closer collaboration and continued follow-up of G2G cooperation in fertilizer and rubber sector, launching of Joint Business Council, cooperation in the Halal sector and Semiconductor industry, among others.

The High Commissioner expressed Bangladesh’s desire to improve the level of bilateral relations beyond labour migration and expanding the bilateral engagement in economic and trade cooperation, and enhancing Malaysian investments in high-impact sectors like halal industries, agritech, fintech, and digital economy.

Keeping in mind the upcoming visit of the Honourable Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Professor Muhammad Yunus, tentatively in July, the Deputy Minister expressed his keen interest to visit Bangladesh, possibly in June, 2025 and the High Commissioner assured all-out support to facilitate the visit.

Senior officials from MITI, agencies like the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), and representatives from the Export-Import Bank of Malaysia were in attendance.

Ms. Mosammat Shahanara Monica, Minister (Political) and Mr. Pranab Kumar Ghosh, First Secretary (Commercial), accompanied the High Commissioner during the meeting.

Lastly, the Deputy Minister presented a book authored by him to the High Commissioner, and he received a ‘Traditional Art of Jamdani (Saree) Weaving’ frame as a souvenir from the High Commissioner which he appreciated.
