Bangladesh RMG Sector Eyes Greater Women Participation in Green Transition: BGMEA VP at IFC Roundtable

Vidiya Amrit Khan, Vice President of BGMEA, highlighted the critical role of women in advancing a climate-smart Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector at the IFC Roundtable on Women’s Opportunities in Climate-Smart RMG, held on Tuesday (26 August 2025).

During the discussion with industry leaders, Ms. Khan addressed the current landscape of women in green jobs, the challenges they face, and the need for role models to inspire greater participation. She underscored the persistent barriers to access to finance for women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh, noting the requirement for collateral and guarantors as major hurdles.

Stressing the importance of collective action, she called for shared responsibility across the RMG supply chain to create a more inclusive and environmentally sustainable industry.

Ms. Khan concluded by expressing her gratitude to IFC for organizing the initiative, emphasizing its significance in promoting women’s engagement in the green transition of Bangladesh’s garment sector.
