Desk Report:
Imran Haider, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Mohammad Hatem, President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). During the meeting held at the BKMEA’s Dhaka office, discussions focused on various opportunities to further strengthen trade and business cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan, particularly within the textile and apparel sectors.

The meeting emphasized enhancing direct communication between businesspeople of both countries, expanding sourcing opportunities, facilitating factory and business visits, participating in trade fairs, and establishing effective connections between textile manufacturers and buyers in both nations.

Discussions also highlighted the potential for sourcing various textile materials—such as yarn, fabric, denim, dyes, and chemicals—from Pakistan for Bangladesh’s ready-made garment and knitwear industries. Emphasis was placed on competitive pricing, product quality, reliable delivery schedules, and the proper fulfillment of commercial commitments.

The parties discussed nominating a coordinator from each side to make business relations between the two countries more effective and dynamic. Additionally, views were exchanged on fostering mutual cooperation through regular business meetings, the exchange of business delegations, factory visits, and the implementation of joint initiatives.

Representing the BKMEA at the meeting were President Mohammad Hatem, Senior Vice President Amal Poddar (CIP), and Directors Md. Jamal Uddin Mia, Engineer Md. Belayet Hossain Ripon, Rajib Chowdhury, and Md. Moniruzzaman.
Representing the Pakistan High Commission were High Commissioner Imran Haider and Zain Aziz, the Attaché for Trade and Investment.
Both sides emphasized the importance of capitalizing on opportunities to expand bilateral trade in the textile and ready-made garment sectors by enhancing communication and cooperation between the private sectors of Bangladesh and Pakistan.
