The National Consensus Commission wants to move towards creating a national charter as soon as possible. Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz made this comment.
Professor Ali Riaz made this comment at the beginning of the extended discussions between Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the Parliament House in Dhaka today (May 18, 2025), according to a press release from the commission.
He said that the commission will conclude the initial stage of discussions with political parties in a day or two and start the second stage of discussions soon to create a national charter.

Stating that the opportunity for discussion has been created at the cost of a lot of blood and lives, Professor Ali Riaz, in his opening speech, also said that we have a responsibility towards those whose sacrifices have created this opportunity. This responsibility lies not only with the National Consensus Commission but also with all political forces, civil society and social forces of Bangladesh.
At that time, Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Md. Ayub Mia and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider were present as members of the commission.
