Bangladesh and China Agree to Enhance Trade, Investment, and Development Cooperation

Desk Report:

Representatives from Bangladesh and China have expressed a firm commitment to further strengthening the long-standing friendly relations between the two nations and elevating them to new heights. To this end, discussions were held on increasing engagement at the political and party levels, as well as expanding cooperation in trade, investment, regional connectivity, and development.

These topics were discussed during a breakfast meeting held on Thursday (November 5) at the State Guest House ‘Padma’ in Dhaka, hosted in honor of Liu Haixing, a senior official from the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The meeting was attended by Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 of Bangladesh.

Liu Haixing visited Bangladesh from November 3 to 5. During the meeting, both sides reflected on the enduring friendly ties between the two countries and expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and achievements of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s visit to China in June 2026.

During the discussion, Liu Haixing recalled the contributions of his father, Liu Shuching—a former Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh—noting that his father had played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations during his tenure.

Highlighting the significant role of the CPC’s International Department in shaping China’s foreign policy, Liu Haixing assured that his office would work tirelessly to further bolster Bangladesh-China bilateral relations.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building a “China-Bangladesh Community with a Shared Future in the New Era.” The discussion covered various areas, including enhancing political and party-level exchanges, expanding trade and investment, developing connectivity infrastructure, and fostering mutual development cooperation.

During the meeting, Humayun Kabir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 of Bangladesh, sought China’s continued support to ensure the swift and safe repatriation of the Rohingya people to Myanmar.
