Bangladesh and Australia pledge to further strengthen bilateral ties in the defense sector

Prime Minister’s Defense Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, PSC, G, paid a courtesy call on Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle today (June 2, 2026).

The meeting, held at the Office of the Defense Advisor of the Armed Forces Division located in Dhaka Cantonment, discussed various aspects of the existing bilateral relations between the two countries. In particular, strengthening defense cooperation, exchanging mutual experiences and potential areas of future military cooperation were given importance in the meeting.

During the discussion, both sides emphasized on further strengthening, deepening and multi-dimensionally strengthening the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Australia. At the same time, views were also exchanged on enhancing defense and security cooperation, training, capacity building, enhancing professional skills and expanding mutual communication.

At the time, both sides emphasized the need to continue constructive cooperation to safeguard regional and global peace, stability and security. They also expressed their hope to take the relations between the two countries to a more effective and fruitful level in the future based on mutual trust, respect and common interests.
