Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Bangladesh, concluded a two-day semi-official visit to Cumilla district and its surrounding areas from May 2 to 3, 2025. This visit, marked by strict protocol and a warm welcome, aimed to strengthen local cooperation between Algeria and Bangladesh, with a focus on education, cultural exchange, and humanitarian collaboration.

Accompanied by embassy staff, their family members, and a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Ambassador Saidani visited several educational and religious institutions in Cumilla. The visit highlighted the shared commitment of both countries to youth development, religious understanding, and social welfare.

Key highlights of the visit included stops at several institutions founded or supported by renowned Bangladeshi engineer and philanthropist Mr. A. Rashid. The Ambassador praised Mr. Rashid’s outstanding contributions to education and community development.
During the visit, the Ambassador engaged with students, teachers, and local leaders at institutions such as Islamia Aliya Kamil Madrasa, Chowara Adarsha Degree College, and Jamia Islamia Hamidia Kawmia, among others. He emphasized the importance of youth empowerment, interfaith harmony, and intercultural cooperation.

The Algerian Embassy particularly emphasized the importance of exploring student and teacher exchange programs between the two countries.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Saidani expressed his deep gratitude for the hospitality extended by the Bangladeshi government and the local community, reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to people-to-people diplomacy and shared progress.
He also highlighted the strong foundations laid for future bilateral initiatives based on education, charity, and cultural understanding.
