Action will be taken if vehicles heading to designated livestock markets are stopped midway – Home Adviser

Action will be taken if vehicles heading to any designated cattle market are stopped midway, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said.

The advisor said this while briefing journalists after a law and order meeting on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (May 19, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that during the holy Eid-ul-Azha, there is usually a lack of discipline in our cattle markets. Therefore, it has been decided that the cattle or cattle carts that will come from different parts of the country will have to have specific market information in front of them. Cows will not be allowed to be dropped off anywhere. Cows will have to be dropped off at designated places instead of being dropped off on the road.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, for the sake of security, Ansar should be kept in every market. Some markets may have 75 people and some markets may have more or less. The advisor said, along with security, there should be a cow doctor in the market. Sick cows should not be sold in any way. He said, many times people get injured due to cow attacks, so first aid arrangements should also be made. Although 5 percent was collected this year, it will be collected at the rate of 4 taka per 100 taka from next year. He also said, bulkhead movement will be stopped five days before Eid and three days after Eid. It will not be able to run at night under any circumstances.

The advisor also said, no bus, train, or boat can carry extra passengers ahead of Eid. The same rule will apply to bringing and taking animals. He said, people will have different demands. We will call on all ministries to accept reasonable demands. However, care should also be taken that no one makes unreasonable demands. And everyone should stand up for their demands within their own complexes. They should not create suffering for the common people by blocking the roads.

Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Home Affairs Md. Khoda Bakhas Chowdhury, Director General of RAB AKM Shahidur Rahman and other concerned officials were present during the briefing.
