Desk Report:
Taslim Ahmed Shuvo, an SSC examinee, had been pursuing his studies with the hope of fulfilling his dreams and ensuring his education would not be cut short by poverty. However, due to his family’s financial hardship, nearly two years of school tuition fees, examination fees, and registration fees had gone unpaid, casting uncertainty over his ability to sit for the SSC examinations. Ultimately, the ABG (Anvir Bashundhara Group) Foundation has extended a helping hand to ensure his education continues.
Shuvo, a resident of Pajulia village in Gazipur, comes from a family that relies on his father’s hard labor for its primary income. To earn a living, his father buys milk from a local dairy farm to sell in the market and also works as an agricultural laborer on others’ land. With such limited income, it became difficult for the family to cover both their daily living expenses and the costs of their son’s education.
Despite these economic challenges, Shuvo has persisted in his studies. For the past four years, he has received a monthly stipend of 1,000 BDT under the Bashundhara Shuvosangho scholarship program, which has been a vital source of support for his educational expenses.
However, the family’s financial burden intensified when Shuvo enrolled in coaching classes to better prepare for his SSC examinations. While the scholarship funds helped cover the monthly coaching fees, the family could not manage the funds required to clear the accumulated school tuition, examination fees, and SSC registration fees. This situation created uncertainty regarding his participation in the exams.
Upon learning of this crisis, the ABG Foundation stepped in to ensure that Shuvo’s education could continue without further interruption. Last Sunday, at Mofiz Uddin Khan High School—located in Chapulia, Gazipur—a grant was provided to cover Shuvo’s outstanding school fees for nearly two years, along with his examination and registration fees, as well as other pending dues. On this occasion, Lutfor Rahman, a staff photojournalist for Kaler Kantho, handed over a cheque—a grant from the ABG Foundation—to the school’s headmistress, Asma Akter, as well as to student Taslim Ahmed Shuvo and his mother, Nashima Begum.
Asma Akter, the school’s headmistress, stated that the educational scholarships provided by Bashundhara Shuvosangho are helping underprivileged yet meritorious students—in Gazipur and various other parts of the country—to continue their studies. This support enables students to pursue their education despite facing adverse circumstances. Furthermore, this initiative by the ABG Foundation is highly commendable; such humanitarian efforts play a vital role in fostering the progress of the nation’s talented students.
Meanwhile, Shuvo’s mother, Nashima Begum, expressed her gratitude upon receiving the financial assistance. She extended her thanks to the ABG Foundation and everyone involved in the educational scholarship program of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
With the support of the ABG Foundation, Shuvo has been able to overcome the obstacles that threatened to bring his education to a halt due to financial hardship. Initiatives like this—which stand by meritorious students from financially disadvantaged families—not only help them continue their studies but also offer a beacon of hope for the realization of their future dreams.
