Review meeting on LDC transition held

A high-level review meeting on the preparation for transition from LDC was held today (July 30, 2025) under the chairmanship of Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. The meeting was held at the Principal Advisor’s office in Tejgaon in the capital at 11 am on Wednesday.

The progress of 16 decisions was discussed in the meeting. Of these, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is working on four, the Ministry of Industries is working on three, the Economic Relations Department is working on two, the Ministry of Commerce is working on three, and the Principal Advisor’s office is working on four decisions.

NBR Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan said that the NBR is working for the full implementation of the National Single Window. 19 organizations have already been added. More organizations are being added. In addition, he informed the Principal Advisor about the preparation of the implementation action plan for Tariff Policy 2023 and the implementation progress.

Today’s meeting also discussed providing necessary support and incentives to other export sectors like the ready-made garment industry and providing duty-free facilities for importing raw materials and machineries related to man-made fibers.

Today’s meeting discussed the full commissioning of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) established in Tanari Village in Savar, the full commissioning of the API Park under implementation in Gazaria, Munshiganj, and the measures taken to update the industrial policy formulated in 2022.

The Chief Advisor said, “We have committed a crime regarding the country’s leather industry, we did not evaluate it properly. We were supposed to benefit economically from this industry, but that did not happen.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Advisor has ordered to organize a separate meeting on what to do to resolve the crisis in the leather industry.

In addition, he ordered to organize another meeting on what to do to transition from LDC within the next two months.

The Chief Advisor said, ‘We have to do these things for our own interest, for the sake of our economy. We have to change the policies and laws that are not working and find a way to move forward. These are fundamental issues. We have to do these things for our own progress.’

Today’s meeting was attended by Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Shipping Advisor M Sakhawat Hossain, Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum, Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Principal Secretary to the Chief Advisor M Siraj Uddin Mia, NBR Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur and secretaries of various ministries.
