BGMEA Elections 2025-2027: Sammilito Parishad announces manifesto with 12-point pledges

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has announced its work plan ahead of the 2025-2027 elections. The panel, led by Chaiti Group Managing Director Md. Abul Kalam, presented a 12-point manifesto at a program organized at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday (May 21, 2025).

Former BGMEA President Kazi Moniruzzaman, former president and panel coordinator Faruk Hasan and other leaders of the panel were present at the program.

Panel leader Abul Kalam said, “The garment industry is on the verge of a new journey today. The target is to export one hundred billion dollars. However, to reach that goal, we need to take more specific action plans and practical steps.”

He further said that in the current context, global compliance, HREDD, CSDDD and traceability issues have become important. At the same time, gas-power crisis and increase in production costs are also big challenges. The Joint Council is ready to face these.

The 12-point plan announced by the Sammilito Parishad includes:

  1. SME Support Cell – Solving structural and policy problems by forming a special cell for small and medium garment factories.
  2. Energy Security – Coordination with stakeholders to ensure gas and power supply and alternative incentives for factories in crisis.
  3. Industry 4.0 Readiness – Training programs launched to improve skills from workers to managers.
  4. Ease of Financing – Specialized Green Funding Desk and policy support to reduce interest rates.
  5. Market Diversity – Expanding exports of products by finding new markets outside Europe and America.
  6. Alternative Incentive Framework – Alternative policies for survival after LDC transition.
  7. Revenue and Trade Support – Reform of customs and bond system, initiative to launch green channels.
  8. One-Stop Export Support Cell – Supportive platform for SMEs, women and second-generation entrepreneurs.
  9. Social Compliance Framework – Formulation of a unified code of conduct with international standards.
  10. Green Industrialization – Emphasis on renewable energy, decarbonization and circular economy.
  11. ‘Made in Bangladesh – Premium’ branding – Presenting Bangladesh as a modern and sustainable sourcing destination.
  12. Apparel Diplomacy and Exit Policy – Strengthening diplomatic engagement in the global market and creating opportunities for honorable factory closures.

The Sammilito Parishad believes that now is the time to implement a realistic plan to ensure the sustainable progress of the garment sector. They have promised that if elected, they will prioritize this 12-point plan and elevate the industry to the next level.
