Canada Keen to Collaborate with Bangladesh on Technical and Vocational Education and Training

Diplomatic Desk:

Canada has expressed interest in further expanding cooperation with Bangladesh in the education sector, specifically within the realm of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). To this end, emphasis has been placed on strengthening mutual collaboration among educational institutions, the private sector, and civil society in both countries.

On Thursday (October 29, 2026), the High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, Ajit Singh, met with Bangladesh’s Minister of Education and Minister of Primary and Mass Education, Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon, in a courtesy call.

During the meeting, the Education Minister outlined the priorities and future plans for Bangladesh’s education sector. He particularly highlighted the importance of developing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to create a better future and employment opportunities for the country’s population. Discussions also covered potential sectors that could generate greater opportunities for the people of both nations.

The Canadian High Commissioner briefed the Education Minister on the recent visit to Bangladesh by Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary, Randeep Sarai. He elaborated on various aspects of Canada’s ongoing and future support for Bangladesh’s education sector, with a focus on TVET.

The High Commissioner noted that since 2014, Canada has pledged over 86 million USD in support for education, skills development, and technical and vocational training in Bangladesh. Key partners in these collaborative efforts include BRAC, the International Labour Organization (ILO), UCEP Bangladesh, PROKAS (Promoting Knowledge for Accountable Systems), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh.

Through these initiatives, efforts are underway to provide quality education, market-driven skills training, and dignified employment opportunities for thousands of individuals—including disadvantaged children, adolescents, and youth, as well as women, teenage girls, and persons with disabilities.

Furthermore, High Commissioner Ajit Singh highlighted the potential for new collaborative ventures that could be implemented jointly by educational institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations in both Bangladesh and Canada.
