Nepalese Ambassador Emphasizes Tourism and People-to-People Ties to Strengthen Bangladesh-Nepal Relations

Diplomatic Desk:

A tourism promotional event titled “Nepal is Calling: Visit, Explore, Experience” was held in Dhaka with the aim of fostering tourism cooperation, enhancing connectivity, and strengthening people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and Nepal.

The event was organized jointly by the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka and the Nepal Tourism Board on the evening of Wednesday, October 28, 2026. It was attended by representatives from the tourism sectors of both nations, tour operators, travel agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, highlighted tourism and interpersonal connections as vital pillars of the relationship between the two countries. Pointing to the geographical proximity, cultural similarities, and the diverse range of tourist attractions in Nepal, he encouraged Bangladeshi travelers to visit Nepal, explore its beauty, and gain unique experiences.

The Ambassador also addressed the damage caused to Nepal by the devastating flash floods on August 26, 2026. At the same time, he underscored the resilience of Nepal’s tourism industry and the ongoing initiatives aimed at further strengthening the sector.

The chief guest, Dr. Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh, stated that tourism cooperation and the development of connectivity could play a significant role in deepening the relationship between the two nations. She urged the participating travel and tour entrepreneurs to expand their business networks, strengthen mutual partnerships, and develop joint tourism packages. She noted that such initiatives would further solidify the bonds and interactions between the people of the two countries.

During the event, Santosh Kumar Ghimire, a Senior Manager at the Nepal Tourism Board, delivered a presentation on the tourism potential of Nepal. The event highlighted various facets of tourism, including leisure, culture, spirituality, adventure, wellness, and entertainment, as well as the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. Nepal was presented as a safe, hospitable, and year-round travel destination.

Other speakers at the event included Pratik Karki, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Nepal; Mohammad Hanif, President of the Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB); and Mohiuddin Helal, Chairman of the Asian Tourism Fair.

Prior to the formal proceedings, B2B (business-to-business) meetings were held between tour operators and travel agencies from Bangladesh and Nepal. These discussions explored the potential for developing joint tourism packages, organizing group tours, and expanding mutual promotional activities.

The event also featured cultural performances showcasing Nepal’s rich heritage. Additionally, a raffle draw offered prizes, including flight tickets courtesy of Himalaya Airlines and special holiday packages provided by various Nepalese tour and travel agencies.

Meanwhile, a delegation comprising tour operators and travel agencies from Nepal—led by the Nepal Tourism Board—is set to participate in the 14th Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BTTF) 2026, which will be held in Dhaka from October 29 to 31, 2026.
