High-Powered Inquiry Committee Formed in Secretariat Fire: Home Adviser

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that a high-powered investigation committee is being formed in the incident of fire in building number 7 of the Secretariat.

The adviser told reporters at a press conference at the secretariat after visiting the scene at 9 a.m. on Thursday (December 26, 2024).

The advisor said that a high-powered investigation committee is being formed from the cabinet department in the incident of fire in the secretariat. The number of committee members can range from 5 (five) to 11 (eleven).

He also said, ‘We will see what happened. We will let you know if anything is found after the entire search.

The advisor said that the fire broke out on the 6th floor of the building number 7 of the secretariat and spread upwards. At approximately 1:50 PM, fire broke out on the sixth floor of building number 7. The fire service was informed at 1:52 p.m. They started their work from 1:54. The fire came under complete control at 8:05 am.

The Home Affairs Adviser said that a firefighter was crushed to death by a truck while crossing the road in front of the Secretariat with a pipe to control the fire.

Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and Industry and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs during the press briefing. Khoda Bakhs Chowdhury and others were present.

The fire broke out on the 6th floor of the 7th building of the secretariat of the ministry of road transport, post and telecommunication and LGRD.
