Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh meets BGMEA Administrator

The Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, Andre Carstens, met with the Administrator of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

The courtesy call was also attended by members of the BGMEA Support Committee at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka on 19 December 2024.

During the meeting, they discussed potential areas of cooperation to support the industry, especially in the areas of environmental sustainability – circular fashion, recycling, energy efficiency, etc.

The BGMEA Administrator highlighted the progress of the industry in creating a safe workplace in the garment industry, maintaining social and environmental compliance, and eco-friendly industrialization.

He briefed the Dutch Ambassador about BGMEA’s Sustainable Strategic Vision-2030 and said that to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for the garment industry, BGMEA is working on social and environmental sustainability as well as efforts to keep the industry economically viable by encouraging innovation, diversifying products and markets, and achieving greater productivity.

Anwar Hossain thanked the Government of the Netherlands for supporting the Textile Technology Business Center (TTBC) at the BGMEA Complex for the Bangladeshi garment industry.

The BGMEA Administrator requested the Government of the Netherlands to provide further support to the industry by allocating knowledge, technology and funds so that the Bangladeshi garment industry can become more energy and resource efficient, – able to achieve efficiency in recycling and other environmental areas.
He sought the cooperation of the Netherlands in helping Bangladeshi students acquire more knowledge and skills in textiles, garments, fashion, design and business through collaboration with leading Dutch fashion universities and institutes.

The Ambassador of the Netherlands highly appreciated the progress of the garment industry in Bangladesh.

He said that the Government of the Netherlands has been a partner in the development of Bangladesh for more than 50 years. The Government of the Netherlands will continue to work for the overall development of Bangladesh, including the garment industry.
